Tips for Maintaining Your Furnace Effectively*

It doesn’t really matter what kind/type of furnace you have installed at your home. What matters is they all need to be well maintained in order to function properly. Did you know that only cleaning the duct from the furnace tubes can help you greatly increase fuel efficiency?

Things like this can really help you enjoy better air quality at home while keeping your budget intact at all times.

Cleaning the tubes and the furnace filter

The first thing that you should ensure for the maximum lifetime of your furnace is its tubes and air filter are clean. The furnace requires lots more fuel to provide the same amount of functionality if its tubes are clogged, and that causes its useful life to reduce significantly.

Hire a professional duct cleaning company to make sure everything is neat and clean in those tubes and the filter does not have to be changed.

Make sure you know your equipment well

What will be the first thing that you would do if you smell a gas leak? Turn off the supply to your furnace? Bad move. Simply open the nearest windows and doors letting the gas out and do not re-enter your home, even if it’s urgent.

There is a pilot flame inside the furnace, make sure you pull the tray out of the furnace and check if the pilot burner is what’s causing the smell.

Reigniting the pilot flame

If you have no prior experience in lighting the pilot flame yourself, then make sure you go through the owner’s manual that would be attached with your furnace or came along with it in the warranty card pouch.

Ensure that you follow the procedure to get it reignited. If you don’t see any manual or instructions to follow, then it’s pretty simple; you can rotate your pilot valve to OFF, and then wait for a few minutes. Then you turn it to Pilot, and press the button next to it while you put the lighted match next to the burner.

The pilot should light up, and then you can leave the button. If the pilot stays lit, turn the valve to ON and the main burner should light up. If it doesn’t, you can use a sharp metal wire to clear out any clogs that might be causing the blockage in the pilot’s pipeline.
